How to Fix "Outdated Server/Client" Error
This error appears when the version of your Minecraft client does not match the version your server is running.
Why this happens
- Your client is running a newer version than the server.
- Your client is running an older version than the server.
How to fix it
Option 1 โ Update your Minecraft client
Make sure your Minecraft launcher is set to use the latest version or the version that matches your server.
- Open your Minecraft launcher.
- Go to Installations and select the correct version.
- Launch the game and try connecting again.
Option 2 โ Change your server version
If you want your server to match a specific client version:
- Go to your server in the panel.
- Click the Options tab.
- Under Server Type, click Change Type.
- Select your server software and choose the correct Minecraft version.
- Click Install and restart your server.
Option 3 โ Use ViaVersion (Java only)
If you want to support multiple client versions simultaneously, install ViaVersion:
- Download ViaVersion from Modrinth.
- Upload the
.jarfile to yourplugins/folder. - Restart your server. Players on different versions can now join.
๐ Note: ViaVersion only works on plugin-based servers such as Paper, Spigot, or Purpur.
