Can't Join Bedrock Server โ NetherNet Transport Issue
Can't Join Bedrock Server โ NetherNet Transport Issue
Mojang has changed the default transport protocol from RakNet to NetherNet on newer versions of Bedrock Dedicated Server. RakNet is no longer supported โ NetherNet is now the only available transport protocol.
Why this happens
NetherNet is a WebRTC-based transport protocol introduced by Mojang to replace RakNet. If players are unable to join your server, it may be due to:
- The player is on an outdated Bedrock client that doesn't support NetherNet.
- The player's network or firewall is blocking WebRTC connections.
- The server's
server.propertiesstill hastransport=raknet, which is no longer supported.
Error Codes
- Error Code: Terracotta โ Your server is still using RakNet. Set
transport=nethernetinserver.propertiesand restart. - Error Code: Door โ The server needs a restart to apply the new
server.propertieschanges. Stop and start your server.
How to fix it
Make sure your server is set to use NetherNet:
- Stop your server.
- Go to the Files tab in your panel.
- Open
server.properties. - Find the line that starts with
transport=and set it tonethernet:
transport=nethernet
- Save the file and restart your server.
Using Geyser for Crossplay?
If you're using Geyser to allow Bedrock players to join a Java Edition server, RakNet is also deprecated in Geyser. Update Geyser to the latest build and configure it for NetherNet.
