How to Add Bedrock Addons to Your World

This guide will show you how to install behavior packs and resource packs directly into your Bedrock world folder.

Before You Start

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • Your addon files (.mcpack or .mcaddon).
  • The UUID and version of each addon โ€” found inside the addon's manifest.json file under the header section.
  • Your server must be stopped before making any changes.

๐Ÿ“ Note: Make sure the level-name= value in your server.properties matches your world folder name exactly โ€” including spaces and capitalization. If they don't match, your server will load a different world and your addons won't appear.

Step 1 โ€” Upload Your Addon Files

  1. Go to the Files tab in your panel.
  2. Open the worlds/ folder, then open your world folder (e.g. worlds/MyBedrockWorld/).
  3. Inside your world folder, create two new folders if they don't already exist:
    • behavior_packs
    • resource_packs
  4. Upload your addon folders into the correct folder:
    • Behavior packs (scripts, functions) โ†’ behavior_packs/
    • Resource packs (textures, sounds) โ†’ resource_packs/
  5. Make sure the addon files are unzipped. If your file is a .mcpack or .mcaddon, rename it to .zip first, then extract it.

Step 2 โ€” Find Your Addon's UUID and Version

Every addon needs to be registered using its unique ID.

  1. Open your uploaded addon folder.
  2. Open the manifest.json file.
  3. Look for the header section and find:
    • "uuid" โ€” a long string of letters and numbers (e.g. 12345678-abcd-1234-abcd-123456789abc)
    • "version" โ€” three numbers in brackets (e.g. [1, 0, 0])
  4. Write these down โ€” you'll need them in the next step.

โš ๏ธ Important: Only use the UUID from the header section. Do not use any UUID found under modules โ€” that's a different ID and will cause your addon to not load.

Step 3 โ€” Register Your Behavior Packs

  1. Go back to your world folder (e.g. worlds/MyBedrockWorld/).
  2. Look for a file called world_behavior_packs.json. If it doesn't exist, create it.
  3. Add your behavior packs using this format:
[
  {
    "pack_id": "YOUR_BEHAVIOR_PACK_UUID_HERE",
    "version": [1, 0, 0]
  }
]

For multiple behavior packs, separate each entry with a comma:

[
  {
    "pack_id": "FIRST_UUID_HERE",
    "version": [1, 0, 0]
  },
  {
    "pack_id": "SECOND_UUID_HERE",
    "version": [2, 1, 0]
  }
]

Step 4 โ€” Register Your Resource Packs

  1. In the same world folder, look for or create a file called world_resource_packs.json.
  2. Add your resource packs using the same format:
[
  {
    "pack_id": "YOUR_RESOURCE_PACK_UUID_HERE",
    "version": [1, 0, 0]
  }
]

Step 5 โ€” Restart Your Server

  1. Save both files.
  2. Start your server.
  3. Check the console for any warnings. If you see something like:

[WARN] Configured pack (id: ...) was not found and was ignored

This means the UUID or version doesn't match what's in the manifest.json Double-check for any typos.

  1. Join your world and check if the addon is working.

Common Issues

My addons aren't loading.

  • Make sure your world folder name matches level-name= in server.properties exactly.
  • Make sure the UUID and version match the header section in manifest.json.
  • Make sure there are no extra commas at the end of the last entry in your JSON files.

My addon needs experimental features. If your addon requires experimental features like Beta APIs, you'll need to enable them in a local world first, then upload that world to your server. See: How to Enable Beta APIs and Experimental Features on Bedrock.

My textures or features aren't showing up. Make sure both the behavior pack and resource pack are registered in their respective JSON files. Missing one side will cause the addon to not work properly.
